First one I guess is perfume like for women. You could ask. But most men don't care if it's dark black or light black. So you probably won't get an answer. The only way is to guess what perfume he would prefer. Or get the one you like.
Second would be something from the gadget world. An mp3 player, a new screw gun, perhaps something for the car, this new USB memory stick. Check what he has maybe its worn out or nearly worn out or there is a newer cooler one out there. Maybe something to help him at work. It can even be new poker set or this little cooler for bear. A radio controlled car (not a crappy one), check around the house to get some clear ideas for gadgets.
Third jewelry and more gadgets. Some chain or a ring… make sure he wears jewelry but really... little cool things that they can show off to their friends or couleges are the best :)
Fourth could be a game for ps2 or Xbox. New cool game and he will be so happy that you might feel forgotten or regret that you got him that game. I suggest make rules like: You can only play this much so I won't feel forgotten.
Fifth could be a subscription to some service like cable TV, even internet or some magazine about computers or cars. You should check that he actually reads some magazine before creating any subscription.
Sixth add socks or/and underwear to any of mentioned above and he'll say you are the best. But honestly there aren't many great gift ideas for men. Gadgets pretty much cover it.
To get some ideas on prices just use Amazon or Ebay.
